Cougar baseball falls to DMACC

Cougar baseball took on a rescheduled Easter Weekend series in Boone, Iowa, at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), April 5 - 6.

GAME ONE

The early game on April 5 did not start well for NICC. The Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Cougars pushed one run home in the top of the third inning with a Thomas Blomme single. DMACC quickly responded with seven in the bottom of the frame. Gavin Harrington singled in one more run in the top of the fourth, but that wasn't enough for NICC to avoid the 10-run rule. DMACC won game one, 12-2.

GAME TWO

The Cougar's bats struggled to get going in game two as they found themselves down 15-3 after three innings. Nico Olszewski, Andrew Rottinghaus, Jake Schmidt, Jacob Austin and Dean Garvin all tallied runs batted in, but DMACC's bats were too much. NICC dropped game two 19-8.

GAME THREE

Jack Fenwick dominated for NICC on the mound. He arguably threw the best game of the season by a Cougar pitcher, going six innings, striking out 10 and only allowing one run. NICC's offense also came to life as they held a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth. A few extra base hits by Harrinton and Blake Swart helped facilitate the lead. The Bears wouldn't go away, though. DMACC answered with six runs in the eighth to tie it up, and after a scoreless ninth, the Bears' Cole Baumgart hit a walk-off single to complete the weekend sweep of NICC. DMACC won game three 8-7.
